In Statement by Chancellor Olaf Soltz that he has no plans to visit Kiev at this timedue to the characterization of the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as undesirable by the Ukrainian side, answered the Ambassador of Ukraine in Berlin Andriy Melnik.
“Pretending to be the victim does not sound like a political leader’s attitude”commented Melnik in an interview with the German News Agency dpa, describing him Olaf Solts with a popular German expression, as “beleidigte Leberwurst”.
The Ukrainian diplomat, who has repeatedly provoked criticism of the German government for its stance on the war, stressed that the chancellor remains welcome in Kyiv, but his country is not so much interested in symbolic visits as in the implementation by the governing coalition of the request of the Federal Parliament for the delivery of heavy weapons quickly and the fulfillment of the promises that have been given.
At the same time, according to the Athenian News Agency, Andriy Melnik avoided referring to the issue that has arisen with Mr. Steinmeier and limited himself to stating that “we are dealing with the most brutal war of extermination since the Nazi invasion of Ukraine, no kindergarten”.
However, the former leader of the Left, Gregor Gizi, is going to Kyiv today, while the leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU), Friedrich Mertz, will also visit Ukraine within a week. Foreign Minister Analena Berbok also said she was ready to go to Kyiv.
