Her government Germany intends to equip the country’s Air Force with US-made fifth-generation fighters F-35, sources close to her told the German Agency today.
The Lockheed Martin aircraft, with technology that makes it somewhat invisible to radar, will be purchased to replace the Tornado target, which was commissioned more than 40 years ago, the sources explained.
According to the sources of the German Agency, quoted by AMPE, Berlin intends to buy somewhere 35 such fighters.
Last month, the German Social Democrat chancellor Olaf Solts announced that he would proceed with a massive increase in his country’s military spending, which he assured would exceed 2% of GDP, the figure claimed by NATO but for years Berlin chose not to spend, as the conflict in Ukraine forced Germany to review its foreign and defense policy.
