“The destroyed chariot marks the fall. Ukraine will become Putin’s Stalingrad”said Willand Giebel, curator of the Berlin Story Bunker museum, referring to her defeat Germany in a major battle of World War II.

War criminals are sitting in this embassy. No one from the embassy spoke against the war in Ukraine… I always ask myself what I can do and this is the minimum. But placing a damaged tank in front of the Russians’ door in protest is normal. Glory to Ukraine,” Giebel said.

The Russian embassy was not available to comment on the incident.

The tank, a Russian T-72 B1 tank, (1985), destroyed on March 31, 2022 near the village of Dmitrifka near Kievfrom an anti-tank mine, according to action organizer Giebel and his colleague Enno Lenze.

The two activists stated that the transported to Germany with the help of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the National Museum of Military History of Ukraine.

The battle tank was placed at the intersection of Sandaustrasse and the most touristic street of the German capital Oder den Linden, where will remain until Monday, February 28.

The district office of Berlin’s Mitte municipality last year rejected an application by Lenze and Giebel to display the tank, citing concerns, including road safety.

The organizers went to court and the Berlin Administrative Court gave them permission to implement their initiative.
