Gero Rio brings 10 novelties to the menu; we taste and indicate the three best

After 18 years of operation on a corner of Rua Aníbal de Mendonça, in Ipanema, the gender From Rio transferred during the pandemic to an even nobler point: the Hotel Fasanoon Avenida Vieira Souto.

It began to occupy the spacious hall on the ground floor where the extinct Fasano al Mare used to be. The environment gained a more classy and elegant atmosphere, with wooden partitions, cozy lighting and comfortable chairs.

With each new season, the Italian chef Luigi Moressa (which returned to Gero in 2019) adds to the menu with starters, mains and desserts that, depending on the success among customers, can be included in the house’s fixed menu.

O CNN Travel & Gastronomy you can taste these novelties first hand and deliver which are the best orders from this new menu.

Among the starter suggestions, the fregula stood out, a semolina pasta typical of the Italian island of Sardinia with a shape that resembles a small grain. It is presented in a tasty broth (to taste with a spoon) enhanced with clams, squid and spinach (R$ 94).

The champion among the main dishes was the bigoli al torchio (R$122), a long pasta typical of northern Italy made in bigolaro, in a cylindrical copper press. The fresh pasta, with a great texture, arrives covered with delicious wild boar ragu – meat that, after being marinated for two days, is roasted and shredded by hand.

Born in Padua, Veneto, and currently based in Brazil, chef Luigi proposes baba al rum for dessert (R$36). The cake has French origins but has become a classic in Naples, southern Italy. Light dough, it is baked and then dipped in a syrup prepared with sugar, rum, vanilla and lemon and orange peels. Comes with whipped cream.
