Geroulanos family: In the Spanish group Profand 60% of the fish farms of Kefalonia

By George Lampiris

The Geroulanos family sold 60% of the fish farms in Kefalonia to the Spanish group Profand, which is active in free fishing. The specific move came according to information as a decision of the Geroulanos family and especially of Lara Barazi – Geroulanos and Pavlos Geroulanos, to shield the next day of their business, as they themselves strengthened their percentage and now maintain 40%, while the percentage that sold belonged to the wider circle of the Geroulanos family.

The Profand Group operates fishing vessels operating in South America, North America, India, Africa and Spain.

The move is seen as a step to shield the company from the fierce competition in the domestic fish market following the acquisition of Nereus and Selonda by the Avramar group and a way to create a second major player in the domestic market.

It should be noted that in 2021 the Fish Farms of Kefalonia reached a turnover of 50 million euros, compared to a difficult year as it was in 2020, when the turnover moved to 32.6 million euros.

Kefalonia fish farms were founded in 1981 by Marinos Geroulanos, father of the former PASOK minister and KINAL executive, Pavlos Geroulanos.
