Geth client for the Ethereum network is preparing to move to Proof-of-Stake

One of the main developers of the popular Geth client for the Ethereum network said that the client is almost ready to transfer the network to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm.

The Go-Ethereum client codebase is literally one step away, “one major release” from being fully PoS-ready, Peter Szilagyi told TrustNodes.

Moreover, the necessary code has already been actually developed, now the team is only testing this “major release,” Siladi says.

As part of the transition of the Ethereum network to the PoS algorithm, it will be necessary to redirect RPC procedure calls from miners on the old Proof-of-Work algorithm to Proof-of-Stake algorithm stakers. It is expected that the transition will take place this summer, but a significant part of the developers believe that the procedure will take some more time.

“We will try to complete the merger by mid-July. It is possible, but in a rather busy schedule and without leaving time to solve possible problems … It is quite possible to reschedule. The main thing is that everything goes well,” says Eth 2.0 developer Ben Edgington.

In early January, Vitalik Buterin revealed that the Ethereum 2.0 project was only half done. Now the team is dedicating itself to the merger phase – the transition to PoS. But there are still several stages of the launch of Eth 2.0 ahead.
