His name is Gezim, he has been working in the company for years. Today is being treated at the Nemo clinical center in Trento, where he is facing one of the hardest challenges of his life. To guarantee him the continuity of work – and, therefore, a salary, a possible normality, a space to cure themselves – they thought about it: colleagues and colleagues who have given up a part of their free time and their holidays to transform them into a shared resource.
“I can face this moment with serenity thanks to the generosity of my colleagues and the company,” says Gezim. “They granted me the time needed to focus on this new path that the disease imposes on me and my family ».
All this was Possible thanks to the Solidarity Hours Bankan instrument required by law that allows you to transfer hours not used to a colleague in difficulty. The company management gave the green light, the union Feneal Uil supported the initiative. Nobody imposed anything: everyone has decided how much to give, whether to give, when.
The Italian Association of the Amiotrophic Lateral Sclerosis wanted to thank the protagonists of this affair. In an open letter, the president Fulvia Massimelli wrote: “You have chosen to stay next to it, when the disease tends to isolate. And you have shown that work can also be a place of care and community ».
Gezim, Dal Nemo, explains: “SLA takes away a lot, but it also made me rediscover the value of human relationships. Not only with my colleagues, but also with the operators who work here. They are not just professionals: they are people who listen, who observe, who make us feel seen ». And he concludes: «I would never have expected that so many people would think of me. Here at the Nemo I feel protected, welcomed. We receive support every day, always accompanied by a smile. And this, believe me, really matters ».
