Nelson Akira Sato, CEO of Sato Company, announced that Brazilian cinemas will have a festival with films from Studio Ghibli in 2025. The news was revealed during the Unlock CCXP 24 an event that takes place this Tuesday (3) and Wednesday (4) at São Paulo Expo, in the south of São Paulo.
Ghibli Fest will bring together 22 productions from the famous Japanese studio, featuring notable films such as “The Boy and the Crane”, winner of the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2024, and “Spirited Away”, which won the same award in 2023.
For Sato, the fact that animes are already available on streaming services will not be an obstacle for people to see the productions in movie theaters.
“The experience of watching on a big screen inside a cinema is different. As much as there is in streaming, the magic of cinema is unique”, declared the executive during the panel that celebrated the 40th anniversary of “Akira”, the first anime to reach Brazilian cinemas.
The Sato Company also announced that it will bring “Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram” to Brazil in 2025. The 27th feature in the franchise is the highest-grossing film in Japan in 2024, with US$97.5 million (about R$ 590 million).
