Gianni Morandi: “I hosted a Ukrainian refugee but she wanted to return home”

“I hosted a 69-year-old Ukrainian lady for about fifteen days, we couldn’t communicate very well with her because she only spoke Ukrainian or Russian.” In an interview broadcast on Rtl 102.5, Gianni Morandi he recounted his experience of hosting a Ukrainian woman who fled the war. “She would lock herself in the room and cry and try to talk on the phone with some family members who were there, one morning she woke up and left because she wanted to go back to Ukraineat his house, despite the bombs ».

This is what happens to many Ukrainian refugees who have arrived in Italy but with their thoughts fixed at home, to their loved ones left to fight. None of them chose to leave, as refugees fleeing any war tell. They are forced by the violence of the bombs. “Then I learned that she arrived, she thanked us so much”. More and more Ukrainian citizens are choosing to return to their country. Since the beginning of the war I have been over 4.2 million people fled Neighboring countries, such as Poland, Romania and Moldova. While the internally displaced are at least 6.5 million.

On the ongoing conflict, Morandi added: «We can go on a long time with this war, sooner or later it will end. Maybe Putin does not want to show that he is defeated? It seems to me that he is acting insane. ‘
