Gigabyte server catalog has been updated with models based on the Arm architecture

Gigabyte Technology has updated its server portfolio with eight Arm models: G242-P33, G242-P34, R152-P31, R152-P32, R272-P31, R272-P32, R272-P33 and E252-P31. All of them are single-processor and built on Ampere Altra processors, which have from 32 to 80 cores.

According to the manufacturer, the Ampere Altra platform targets cloud and edge workloads, for which core count is of paramount importance. It provides excellent scalability, high performance and energy efficiency.

In addition to the processor, the board has 16 DDR4 DIMM slots, which can accommodate up to 4TB of memory. Modules up to DDR4-3200 are supported. In addition, there are two M.2 PCIe Gen4 x4 slots for SSD and up to seven PCIe Gen4 slots for expansion cards. All models are equipped with two 1GbE ports and a dedicated network port for remote management.

Depending on the model, the server can be installed from 4 to 12 drives of size 3.5 and 2.5 inches with different interfaces. For example, the G242-P33 and G242-P34 have four 3.5 “SATA drives, while the R272-P32 have eight 2.5” SATA drives and four 2.5 “NVMe drives. …

Designed for GPU-centric workloads, the G242-P33 and G242-P34 models have slots for four and two accelerators, respectively (in addition to three slots for other expansion cards) and two 1600W PSUs. General purpose servers R152-P31, R152-P32, R272-P31, R272-P32 and R272-P33 have fewer slots and lower power supplies – from 650 to 1200 W, but in all cases, power supply redundancy is also implemented.

For added security, all servers have a Root of Trust mechanism implemented in hardware, which prevents cyber threats and ensures that the firmware is not compromised.
