Gigi D'Agostino returns to Sanremo 2024 after illness: how he is today

It was December 2021 when Gigi D'Agostino announced for the first time that he was ill. He did not explain what pathology it was – most likely a tumor – but he felt the need to share his suffering and concern with the public: «Unfortunately for some months I have been fighting a serious illness that has affected me aggressively. It's a constant pain, it doesn't give me peace. The suffering consumes me, it has made me very weak, but I continue to fight. I hope to find a little relief.” From that moment on, the love around Gigi D'Agostino became increasingly stronger, leading the artist, symbol of dance music of the nineties and 2000s but also a champion of great discretion and shyness, to update fans on his conditions explaining, as time passed, that he felt stronger, to the point of agreeing to perform on board the Costa Smeralda during the fourth evening of Sanremo Festival 2024.

That of Sanremo coincides with the great return of Gigi D'Agostino since that announcement, rekindling interest in an artist who, during his long career, has given life to real catchphrases such as L'amour toujours, still very popular today. Born in Turin on 17 December 1967, Gigi D'Agostino – pseudonym of Luigino Celestino Di Agostino – develops a love for music from his father, a master of the accordion. The beginnings date back to 1986, when D'Agostino began deejaying in the Turin nightclub Woodstock and then joined the Voyager group in 1993 together with Sergio Datta and Maurizio de Stefani. His first single arrives the following year: it's called The Mind's Journey, and from that moment on his career never stopped.
