Gilmar Mendes is chosen as rapporteur for action on the blackout of Health data

Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the STF, was defined as rapporteur of the petition presented by PT deputies against the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, because of the blackout of data from the ministry on the epidemiological situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The deputies asked the STF to send the accusation made against Queiroga to the Attorney General’s Office. According to PT members, “the persistence of this blackout in the Ministry of Health, whose existence, criminal or not, harms Brazilian society as a whole, making serious public policies to face the disease extremely difficult”.

“The absence of reliable information or the lack of information from the main body managing public policies for health in the country, at a time of aggravation of the pandemic, shows a lot of the administrative management of health and the executive administration in the country”, completed the deputies in the order.

On Monday (10), before the presentation of the action and being chosen as rapporteur of the case, Minister Gilmar Mendes criticized, on Twitter, the blackout of data from the Ministry of Health on the situation of the pandemic in the country.

“The re-establishment of systems for updating epidemiological bulletins should be treated as a priority. For weeks, states and municipalities have faced difficulties in reporting cases of contamination and hospitalization. The #ApagaoNaSaude makes it impossible to face the pandemic”, said the minister.

In a press conference on Wednesday (12), the executive secretary of the Ministry of Health, Rodrigo Cruz, said that the expectation is that by next Friday (14), all data will be available for access by the population.
