Gilson Machado trusts the resumption of the cruise season

The Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado, declared, this Monday (7), that he believes in the resumption of the cruise season, hoping for that to happen.

The cruise season started in November 2021. The companies decided to voluntarily suspend activities temporarily until January 21st at first, and then the deadline was extended until February 18th.

The measure took place after the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) recommended the closure of activities, on December 31, due to the increase in cases of Covid-19 due to the Ômicron variant.

“Anvisa did not prohibit the cruise from sailing. The decision rests with the states. We’re just following along. The companies voluntarily postponed the return of cruises for another two weeks. I hope the cruises come back.”, Machado explained.

Also according to the minister, the sector would generate over 30,000 jobs in Brazil, with sales of almost R$ 2.5 billion in the season. “Every 13 passengers on the ship generates a job. And my fight is for jobs. President Bolsonaro’s fight is for employment in our country. So much so that we managed, despite the pandemic. We created three million jobs in Brazil”, revealed the minister.

Machado was in Rio de Janeiro to receive the Tirantes Medal, an honor granted by the State Government of Rio de Janeiro to national and foreign personalities who provided relevant services to the state.

“Receiving an honor like this from the State, which, if it were a country, would be the country with the greatest vocation for tourism in the Americas, which is Rio de Janeiro. Rio de Janeiro has gastronomy, Rio de Janeiro has ecotourism, it has sun, it has beaches. Rio de Janeiro has culture, it has Carnival. There is the region of Serra do Rio de Janeiro, Petrópolis, Teresópolis”, he celebrated.

The director-president of the Brazilian Agency for the International Promotion of Tourism (Embratur), Carlos Alberto Gomes de Brito, was also decorated. “We will increasingly highlight Rio de Janeiro in the way it deserves,” he said. The initiative was taken by state deputy Alana Passos (PSL-RJ).

PM from events

The minister also stated that he expects the extension of the so-called Provisional Measure (MP) of the events to come out this month. “[É] a moment of survival for the sector. We are looking for a reissue for event companies, retroactive from January 1st, to save event companies. Because it’s not easy for you to reach your company, your brother, for example: ‘we spent two years without making anything, but paying your bills’. Who can put up with that?” he asked.

He, however, explained that it was necessary to seek a replacement for the tax exemption. “Because, otherwise, you fall into the crime of fiscal responsibility. It’s not just pressing the pitoco and giving automatically, no. Understood? But we are imbued with it. We did it last year, and I have no doubt that the events sector does need all the tenancy in its conduct, all the support from the federal government and the Ministry of Tourism”, concluded Machado.
