Girlfriend pays tribute to Brazilian killed in Hamas attack: “I owe my life to you”

Rafaela Treistman, girlfriend of Ranani Nidejelski Glazer, a Brazilian killed in Israel after Hamas attacks, stated that he saved her life in a post made on social media this Tuesday (10).

She, who is also Brazilian, said goodbye to her boyfriend, whom she called a hero in the caption of the compilation of photos and videos posted in tribute and farewell to Ranani.

“When we were about to die, you didn’t fail to welcome me, to calm me down. I owe you my life, you saved mine. If there is a hero in this whole story, that hero is you, my love,” she wrote.

Rafaela mourned the death of her boyfriend, who passed away at the age of 24, and remembered the dreams he wanted to achieve in life.

“You wanted to be a famous DJ in Brazil, you wanted your songs to be known, we even wrote a song between the two of us. I remember all the times we sang our song to someone who hadn’t heard it yet. I remember the feeling I had that, when we sang, we spread our positive energy everywhere,” he said.

Ranani was found dead, as confirmed by the young man’s family to CNN. Itamaraty also confirmed the death. His body was recognized by his father, according to a cousin.

He had been missing since Saturday (7), when the Islamic group Hamas, considered terrorist by the United States and the European Union, attacked a rave — an electronic music party — where he was attending with his girlfriend.

Moment of panic

Rafaela reported, in an interview with CNN on Sunday (8), the moments of panic experienced during Hamas’ attack on the country.

They were with a friend at a festival taking place in the south of the country. Rafaela reports that on Saturday morning (7), at the rave, they started to see missiles in the sky. They then went in search of a bunker, from where Ranani even posted a video on social media.

“We went to a road and saw that there was a bunker at a bus stop. Then we thought everything would be fine, since in the bunker the missiles wouldn’t be a problem. But the bunker began to fill with people. I can’t say how many, it just wasn’t possible to move in the space we were in”, reported Rafaela.

At this moment, reports Rafaela Treistman, gas bombs started to be thrown towards the bunker, “one after the other”.

“There were several injured and dead inside the bunker. We had no way of leaving, we tried to call the police, in short, literally defending ourselves with the bodies of the people who died,” she says.

“At some point I didn’t see my boyfriend anymore. I don’t know if he got up or left. I didn’t see him again, I was very disoriented. She fainted a lot because of the gas.”

Afterwards, the police arrived at the scene and checked the situation of the people. Rafaela and her friend left the bunker, but did not find Ranani.
