Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady finalize their divorce and end their 13-year marriage

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, who married in 2009, announced the completion of a divorce process this Friday (28).

The two made the announcement by posting announcements on their personal profiles on social media.

“With much gratitude for our time together, Tom and I have amicably finalized our divorce. My priority has always been and will continue to be our children, whom I love with all my heart. We will continue to raise them together to give them the love, care and attention they deserve.”

“The decision to end a marriage is never an easy one, but we have grown apart and while it is of course difficult to go through a time like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and I just wish Tom the best always,” she added.

“I kindly ask that our privacy be respected during this sensitive time. Thank you”, concluded the Brazilian.

They mutually asked for the dissolution of the marriage in the US state of Florida, a source with direct knowledge told CNN.

THE CNN previously reported that Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback who currently plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and his wife, Bündchen, a supermodel, environmental activist and businesswoman, hired divorce lawyers and were dealing with “marital issues,” according to with a fountain close to the couple.

The two are “living separately,” a source close to Bündchen told CNN In September.

Brady, 45, retired from the NFL in February, only to reverse that decision weeks later. He took an 11-day leave of absence from training camp in August to “handle personal stuff,” according to his coach Todd Bowles.

In an interview with Elle magazine published last month, Bündchen, 42, said she had “concerns” about her husband’s return to the countryside after retiring last winter.

“It’s a very violent sport, I have my children and I wish he was more present,” Bündchen told the publication.

“I definitely had these conversations with him several times. But ultimately, I feel like everyone has to make a decision that works for them. He needs to follow his joy too,” he added.

In a recent conversation on his podcast, Brady talked about some of the personal costs of playing in the NFL for two decades.

“I haven’t had a Christmas in 23 years and I haven’t had a Thanksgiving in 23 years, I haven’t celebrated birthdays with people I care about who were born August to late January. And I can’t be at funerals and I can’t be at weddings,” Brady said.

“I think there comes a point in your life where you say, ‘You know what? I’ve had my fill and that’s enough and time to carry on, to move on to other parts of life.”

THE CNN contacted representatives for Brady and Bündchen for comment.
