Giulia Cecchettin disappeared with her ex-boyfriend, the families’ appeal: “Whatever happened, come back”

«We love you and Giulia. Please come back. Whatever happened, come back.”. She is Filippo Turetta’s mother, in front of the microphones, launching this desperate appeal to her son after his and his ex-girlfriend’s Giulia Cecchettin every trace has been lost.

During the first morning, Giulia’s aunt, Elisa Camerotto, had made an appeal to Filippo. «Filippo you have a huge responsibility towards Giulia, stop, she calls your parents or ask someone for help, don’t worry. We are waiting for Giulia and you at home, your parents are also waiting for you». As the hours pass, the anguish grows over the fate of the two ex-boyfriends from Veneto who disappeared from the radar on Saturday night. The two cell phones have been turned off for three days, and new details add apprehension to the searches.

Giulia Cecchettin, 22 years old, and Filippo Turetta, the same age, both engineering students at the University of Padua, were last seen together in a McDonald’s at the Nave de Vero shopping center in the Venetian area Saturday evening.

Then, around 11.30 pm, one of the girl’s uncles saw them inside a car park in Vigonovo, near Giulia’s house: a heated argument and the car left quickly. Then the call to 112, but nothing more about the boys. They were found in the parking lot on Sunday morning traces of blood on the asphalt. Filippo Turetta’s Punto nera, after being seen between Veneto and Friuli in the Cansiglio woods, was then recorded beyond Cortina towards Alto Adige.

Giulia and Filippo, friends since high school at Tito Livio in Padua, during their university years they become a couple. Two years together, but with two interruptions. It is always Giulia who wants to end the relationship with that introverted boy who is too present in her life. But a year ago Giulia had to face a terrible loss: the death of her mother Monica. Her relationship with Filippo resumes, but then Giulia ends it definitively last summer. She confides in her sister Elena and her friends that she maintains relations with the boy because she feels guilty and suffers from seeing him so dejected.

But recently he also makes references to his grandmother that this presence had become too nagging. And it is his sister again who tells how in recent months Filippo’s messages had become more threatening. His friends underline how in the days preceding his disappearance Filippo no longer ate, to the point that they feared for his fate. “I told her to move away, that this relationship wouldn’t bring her anything good,” explains her sister Elena to Gazette, «but she was hesitant. In fact, even after leaving him, she continued to go out with him.”

Giulia was supposed to graduate next Thursday: everything was ready, the thesis, the party, the clothes. On Saturday, however, the student agreed to meet Filippo again. The dinner, the argument, and the blackout.
