Giulia Cecchettin missing since Saturday with her ex-boyfriend, her uncle’s appeal: “She was screaming, he held her back”

At the wheel is Filippo, the ex-boyfriend who had never accepted the end of their story and who has been unavailable since Saturday night.

There is great apprehension for the fate of Giulia Cecchettin, a 22-year-old university student from Vigonovo, a town in the metropolitan city of Venice. This departure is unnatural just a few days before graduation, scheduled for Tuesday 14 November at the University of Padua.

The family cannot rest and renew their appeals. TOThere has also been no news of Filippo Turetta, his age and classmate, since Saturday. And now the investigators are trying to reconstruct the last hours of the two boys, classmates and, until last summer, engaged. The plan for missing persons has been activated and the searches by the Carabinieri are concentrating not only in the province of Venice but also throughout the Northeast. Also in the field are special departments, dog units and molecular dogs.

It’s Saturday afternoon. Turetta comes to pick up Giulia. They arrive at the Nave de Vero shopping center in Marghera, and are seen at the McDonald’s tables around dinner time. In the meantime, Giulia texts her sister. «Everything seemed to be calm», explains Elena Cecchettin, «we were talking about clothes». The conversation on WhatsApp focuses on Giulia’s graduation party that the family is organizing for the following Thursday. The last message arrives at 10.43pm. Then nothing more. Turetta’s phone was located for the last time around 11.30 pm.

But about three quarters of an hour earlier a man claims to have seen the two boys arguing in the car park not far from Giulia’s house, then the girl is detained in the car and the Punto skids at full speed towards the Vigonovo cemetery. The witness calls 112, but when the patrol arrives there is no sign of the car and the boys.

Giulia and Filippo were fellow students at the University of Padua, then engaged until last summer. Despite the end of the relationship, contact between the two had not been interrupted.

«Filippo’s parents told me that, in the last few days, the boy barely ate and was very down in spirits», underlines Giulia’s father, Gino Cecchettin at Corriere del Veneto, «I don’t think he had digested the breakdown of the relationship with my daughter; I fear that this may have something to do with their disappearance and that’s what scares me the most.”

The appeal of the girl’s uncle is desperate, Andrea Camerotto: «A neighbor who was smoking heard Giulia’s cries and she was held in the car by Filippo who then disappeared». He doesn’t hold back his tears at the microphone Veneto regional news.
