Giulia Vecchio, the interview: imitations, love and motherhood

For Giulia Vecchio Being an actress means plashing continuously: “We shape me on stage, in front of a camera and, now, through imitations”, says Giulia who, after a brilliant career at the theater and after having made himself known on TV thanks to Stefano De Martino, is currently a fixed guest of Radio 2 Social Club as well as new face of Gialappashow, where he convinced everyone thanks to the imitation first of Monica Setta and then Milly Carlucci. Waiting to see her compete in the new season of Comedy match – on 1 May 1 on nine -, Giulia Vecchio feels that she has found her shape, gathering with great enthusiasm the warmth of an audience that immediately elected her as one of the brightest talents to keep an eye on.

What relationship does it have with imitations?
«Since I was a child my mother asked me to imitate UNO Ugo, the family joke, and I performed. At school I enjoyed replicating dialects, but I don’t think I can define myself today as a pure imitator who, now, as now, remains for me the great Virginia Raffaele ».

Yet with his imitation of Monica Setta he conquered everyone.
«My colleague Vincenzo De Lucia had planned to imitate her but was blocked: I understood that I would like to imitate her when I started Generation Z immediately after the airing of Stella bar: I remained there, on the tip of the language, to the proposal of the yellows ».

Setta said that the right of satire is important, although she explained that several users told her that her imitation slipped into body shaming.
«Monica called me and was very happy with the imitation, also because we have the same Apulian origins: it told me that it has had a lot of fun, even if it is obvious that the imitation goes to extreme certain characterizations of the character. My move with the boobs is a deliberately exaggerated, almost theatrical gesture: there has never been any will to make fun of anyone’s physique, we would miss it ».

Milly Carlucci, on the other hand, made himself alive after his imitation?
«I learned, on behalf of third parties, that it was very happy. The imitation of the trio of the Carlucci sisters remains in my heart: unreachable ».

Let’s take a step back: how was Giulia old as a child?
“Very shy and quiet, closed in my room to cut the hair to all the Barbie who, thanks to me, became very fluid”.

Are you the only daughter?
«I have a smaller six -year -old brother who studies fashion and who, in fact, has become my point of reference for the style. In the family, art has always been a lighthouse – my aunt Mariella, in the past, tried to participate in Sanremo – considering that I started making theater in my city, in Brindisi, already as a child ».

What did you like about theater?
“Being the center of attention. The high school years were not easy for me and the stage was a bit my safe place because I could exorcise my fragility with acting ».

Why have the high school years have not been easy?
«I had a troubled relationship with my father, who is a person I love very much even if, at that time, he struggled to understand me. In addition, I admit that I was not a great scholar: I only had the theater in my head. My teacher understood that I had good cards to make people laugh, but I wanted to make the tragedy, be antigone ».

The first time he felt free?
“When I entered the Piccolo Teatro in Milan: there I felt for the first time far from all those provincial mechanisms that began to be tight.”

What was weighed?
«Being defined, follow at all costs the stereotype of the good girl who came out of the classical high school. Once you get to the baby, I realized that they were all escaped home like me, and this made me feel at home ».

How was the impact with Milan?
«I had just finished high school and a great desire to question myself and try to do theater: I remember that I tried to the Silvio D’Amico and the Experimental Center in Rome and Paolo Grassi and the Piccolo in Milan: I entered the latter, and it was a great gift. Milan welcomed me in its best aspect, without all the fog and clouds that they said I would meet by transferring me ».

How did they take it?
«My father, who has always been a man with a firm hand, encouraged me because he knew it was something I really cared about. He made many sacrifices to get me forward on this path and, even more important, it has always been close to me when the auditions did not go well, inciting me to continue ».

Have you found competition in the environment?
«I am one who, when he sees someone competing in an exaggerated way, runs away. I am, by nature, very empathic and solidarity: as soon as I realize that certain mechanisms begin to form and tend to dismantle and make them become anything else. When, for the leading role of the Paradise of the ladiesthey chose Giusy Buscemi I took it badly, but the first day of set I realized how good it was: since then it is one of my best friends ».

After so many roles as an actress at some point she found himself playing herself: how was it?
“The first time I did it was in From Christmas to Santo Stefano: There they asked me to be Giulia Vecchio and, there and there, I remember having gone into crisis, also because my theater teachers taught me that there is no more difficult thing to be ourselves. I lived it as a challenge ».

What did you understand thanks to that challenge?
“That in life I don’t want to be a Primadonna, but the one that gives you a pat on the shoulder and makes you laugh with a joke.”

Has beauty ever weighed them?
«It is very difficult to bring others to go beyond the appearance and the first impression: I took years and a lot of commitment to do it but I think that, to make the content come out, it is important that whoever you have in front gives you the opportunity. The rule of the male and female always applies a bit ».

That is to say?
“If you are male and propose an idea often it is accepted on the first shot. If you are a woman no. The laugh, however, is universal, and perhaps this is why I find myself very comfortable in this kind together with the radio, which helped me rediscover the authenticity “.

On the radio he met his partner, Carlo Amleto: how is it working together with his own half?
«A huge mutual esteem binds us: I don’t think it is true that dividing the work with a partner can represent a problem, if anything an opportunity. We have been together for five years now ».

Ever heard the pressure of getting married or becoming a mother to feel realized?
“Unfortunately yes. There is, alas, still a sort of female mandate linked to the care of the home and the world of a creature. My grandmother, the country’s seamstress, has always worked despite having been a great mother: in recent years I asked the people who have closer to me to stop with questions like “and a son when?” Because I don’t think it’s good to say it. What do you know that you don’t want it and is not trying to us? ».

Can you share the thoughts that disturb her with others?
«As a child I kept everything inside. Today I tend, however, to talk about it with who is close to me. Maybe even too much ».

Yellowshow He launched it now: the future that awaits her scares or electrifies it?
«I electrize me, even if I hope I don’t have to enter that turbine so once you are inside you have to ride that famous wave because otherwise it will overwhelm you. I hope to have the patience to wait for the right one and to reach it at the right time as well as having the lucidity of asking me if what I do makes me really happy ».

What’s afraid of?
«To lose the people who are expected to me and who have become my points of reference. The psychotherapist and faith, however, help ».

What do you feel you have to say thanks today?
“For having found, at 33 years old, generous, loyal and good people with whom to share the job.”
