Give me my own money! Woman “assaults” a bank to return her savings

In these times when the economy is very difficult, it is natural that we be careful when spending. Well, that’s fine, we don’t go so easy on that, and boy, should we! But only Diosito can judge us and what concerns us is that saving is part of a financial education that few of us manage to obtain from childhood.

Even so, when we manage to have that foresight habit, whether for emergencies or to travel, when we need it, it can happen that we become impatient to have it in our hands and give it the use for which it is intended.

We could say something like this happened to the young Lebanese woman, Sali Hafiz, a 28-year-old interior designer who, when collecting her savings, got a little excited and with an armed hand requested her money in a way, let’s say, unconventional.

According to information from international media, on September 14, in Beirut, Lebanon, the young Sali Hafiz, aided by the Depositors’ Outcry activists, robbed the BLOM Bank armed with a toy gun. The only thing she demanded was that they give her her money, which the bank had previously denied her.

We learned about this assault because the video of the assault went viral, and it is not for less, because in it we see how Sali entered the bank building while the men who accompanied her closed the entrance. Immediately afterwards, she takes out her fake weapon and threatens to shoot, holding employees and users captive in the place. Upon seizing $13,000 from her, withdrawn from her own bank account, she runs off with her escorts.

The robbery lasted less than an hour, but some time later, Sali and her accomplices were arrested and she explained to the authorities the reason why she had done it.

After her arrest, the girl stated that she was in a very desperate situation, as her sister is suffering from cancer and her treatment requires a large amount of money. However, at the time she tried to withdraw her savings, the banking institution informed her that she could only withdraw 200 dollars in Lebanese pounds per month.

It is understood that Sali is only the first woman of at least seven savers who have robbed banks in recent days, since in Lebanon there are more and more people who prefer to carry out extreme actions like these, since banking institutions have their savings blocked. for the capital controls that the government imposed in 2019 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

For her part, Sali stated that she had no intention of harming anyone. However, she is tired of the government’s inaction.

Perhaps they saw me as a hero for being the first woman to do this in a patriarchal society where a woman’s voice is not supposed to be heard. They are all in cahoots to rob us and let us starve and die slowly.
