The trailer for “Gladiator 2” was released on Tuesday (9) and the web did not let the reference to the first film in the video go unnoticed.
On social media, users highlighted a scene in which Joseph Quinn who plays Emperor Geta, makes the same move as Joaquin Phoenix in “Gladiator” (2000). The Oscar winner played Emperor Commodus in the film.

The plot is set 25 years after the events of the first film, in which Maximus (Russell Crowe), a powerful Roman general, arouses the wrath of Marcus Aurelius’ (Richard Harris) son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), before the emperor’s death. When the heir takes power, he is sentenced to death, however, he manages to escape and goes into hiding as a slave and gladiator while seeking revenge.
The film centers on Lucius, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus, who was modeled after Maximus. In “Gladiator” (2000), the character is a child, played by Spencer Treat Clark .
When he was still young, Lucilla sent him to the north coast of Africa, to a region called Numidia which was – at that time – beyond the reach of the Roman Empire. When he was older, he He lives a relatively peaceful life with his wife and children until the conquerors of his homeland invade his new home, led by a general trained by Maximus.
The title stars the Oscar-nominated Irish actor Paul Mescal and has names like Denzel Washington It is Connie Nielsen in addition to Quinn, in the cast. Like the first film, the sequel is directed by Ridley Scott known for his work in “Alien, the Eighth Passenger” (1979) and “Prometheus” (2012).
