Put on your Barbour jacket and rubber boots. It’s time to dive into the mud of GlastonburyThe Europe’s coolest music festival scheduled from 26 to 30 June at Wothy Farm in Pilto, Somerset, ten kilometers east of Glastonbury. Five days of great rock and pop on the iconic pyramid-shaped stage. This year’s headliners are Dua Lipa, the ColdplaySaturday, and SZA. The queen of British pop is fresh from the success of her latest album Radical Optimism. Chris Martin’s band, however, will participate in the festival for the fifth time. There is also great anticipation for the American SZA (pseudonym of Solána Imani Rowe), among the winners of the 2024 Grammys with the R&B awards.

The first edition of «Glasto» was called Pilton Pop, Folk and Blues Festival and took place in the late summer of 1970, the day after Jimi Hendrix’s death, on the farm of English milkman Michael Eavis: it hosted 1,500 people who tore a pound note, consuming milk and listening to bands such as Marc Bolan’s Tyrannosaurus Rex who replaced, at the last moment, the Kinks. The 80s saw the festival transform into an annual event. Awaiting the 2024 edition, here are 10 memorable moments on the Pyramid Stage: from Bowie to Måneskin.
T. Rex (1970)
Marc Bolan’s historic group replaced the more famous Kinks during the first edition, when the festival was a dairy and the London glam-rock band called itself Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The Smiths (1984)

When Morrissey, Marr and co played Glastonbury, the audience wasn’t (yet) ready for the post-punk revolution. The Manchester band gave the festival one of its most surreal and controversial moments.
Radiohead (1997)

A hypnotic atmosphere envelops Tom York and his associates, fresh from the recent success of OK Computer which made them the most anticipated band of that edition.
David Bowie (2000)

At the turn of the millennium, Bowie was experimenting with the new trend of downloading and took to the Pyramid Stage with a 21-song set list. He closes Glastonbury in an iconic Alexander McQueen coat.
Oasis (2004)

Twenty years ago, the Gallagher brothers headlined Worthy Farm for the second and final time. «Glastonbury», the frontman of the band Liam addresses the 100 thousand people who sing his name, ‘Rock’n’roll Star. A massive dose of rock.
Lady Gaga (2009)

Crazy dancing, quirky one-liners (“I used to go to festivals, take my clothes off and take acid”) and mirrored costumes (including a flamethrower!) Ladies and gentlemen, a star is born.
Arctic Monkeys (2013)

The Sheffield band close out day one at Worthy Farm, with fans raving about stylish leader Alex Turner.
Lana Del Rey (2014)

Summertime Sadness for the femme fatale of dream pop who lights a cigarette on stage.
Måneskin (2023)

Damiano, Victoria, Thomas and Ethan take Glastonbury. Two years earlier, it would have been just a dream for the Roman rock band, today global idols.
Elton John (2023)

Rocket Man makes his Glasto debut for his last UK concert. Sir Elton sent the crowd into raptures with a set list that retraced his iconic career, tributes to great artists and surprise guests (see Brandon Flowers).
