Gleisi tells businessmen that Campos Neto will stay in BC and that a strong man in the economy will be Lula

PT president Gleisi Hoffmann told businessmen and members of the financial market that the current president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, will continue in office if Lula is elected this year, and that the former president will be the “strong man ” of the economy. The statement was confirmed to CNN by PT.

“They told me that Lula had Henrique Meirelles (president of the Central Bank in the Lula administrations) as a reference and I told them that if there was Meirelles, there would be Roberto Campos Neto, if Lula wins because he will stay until the end of his term in Central Bank,” said Gleisi.

Campos Neto, one of the liberals in the Bolsonaro government, has a term of office until December 31, 2024. The term for presidents of the Central Bank came into force after the approval of a constitutional amendment that imposed autonomy on the body, a point that part of the PT is considering reviewing.

Sometimes, Galipolo took the floor to explain to those present what a possible new Lula government would be in the economic area, a question that was frequently asked during the meeting. According to those present, he said, for example, that it is necessary to look forward and that the polarization between state and market does not exist in practice, since, in his view, one would depend on the other.

Some businessmen made the assessment that the country’s economic situation was not bad. It was up to Galipolo to also say that interest, unemployment and inflation rates were in double digits and that families were in debt.
