Global campaign focuses on internet sales security this Christmas

Safety first is the name of the global campaign that brings together 21 countries, including Brazil, coordinated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The campaign aims to guide consumers so that they can make safe choices when shopping online for Christmas.

In Brazil, the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), with the support of the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), will carry out all the guidance and inspection work for products sold online.

The campaign is based on an analysis carried out in 2021, in the countries involved, which identified the sale of irregular products and not suitable for the internet commerce environment, especially in marketplaces.

According to Senacon, the result of the scan carried out in the national territory lit a warning signal, as toys banned for offering risks were still being marketed.

From 2017 to 2019, toys and games were among the top three recalled product groups worldwide.

Check the products regulated by Inmetro that must be checked.

Toys:

The consumer must verify the presence of the indicated age group, appropriate for the age of the child and the presence of the certification.

Home appliances

Safety seal: 183 types of home appliances have the Inmetro seal, attesting that they have been evaluated for safety. This includes: vacuum cleaners, hair clippers, dishwashers, mixers and food processors, which are products that had significant sales growth during social isolation, among others.

Energy efficiency label: among these appliances, some must also display the National Energy Conservation Label, informing about energy efficiency and energy consumption. For example: refrigerators, televisions, etc.

Noise Seal: appliances that make the most noise (blenders and dryers, for example) must have this seal on the packaging, informing the sound power in decibels and classifying the appliances from 1 (quietest) to 5 (least silent).
