The Zumbi dos Palmares University, in São Paulo, will change the name of the Black Race Trophy, an award that recognizes black professionals, to Glória Maria Trophy.
This is one of the educational institution’s tributes to the journalist, who died this Thursday morning (2), in Rio de Janeiro, from complications of brain cancer.
The award, given annually on November 20 since 2004, aims to recognize and praise people who contribute in various activities, enabling future generations to record their determination, work, perseverance and public example in building a more pluralistic society.
Course and classroom will be honored
The university’s dean, José Vicente, told CNN that the future journalism course and one of the rooms in the institution’s Advertising course will also be named after the journalist.
“Glória Mária is the translation of the black woman and the black man so that they can be whatever they want”, he said, moved.
Vicente also stated that the University is very grateful for the journalist, who contributed to the construction of its headquarters.
“Glória Maria has always been present in the University’s projects. She was godmother at the graduation of the second class of the administration course, together with former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso ”, declared Zumbi dos Palmares in a note.
The journalist received the Black Race Trophy for three years in a row, in recognition of her trajectory. In 2021, she was the master of ceremonies for the award, along with actor Paulo Betti.
The university also praised the work of the icon that was Glória Maria: “May her legacy and struggle be perpetuated and inspire new generations”.
