Glu: The property that changed hands and the family businesses in the restaurant

By Matina Harkoftaki

A store that once belonged to the Glu company passed to a new owner yesterday afternoon, thus closing another page in the turbulent history of the clothing and footwear chain of the brothers George and Antonis Glu, which has it all: from the absolute success story and domination in the domestic retail up to the big financial problems that led to the fall and the final padlock. So, one of the remaining pieces of the once state-owned chain Glou was the property that came under the hammer yesterday, attracting the interest of buyers.

It is, after all, a real estate-fillet as it is located on the square of Nea Smyrni. The total price of the first offer was set at 1.4 million euros with the accelerator CEPAL Hellas while the amount of the award was “locked” at 2,125,585 euros, ie about 800 thousand euros more, which indicates that there was a battle between those interested in its acquisition. This store includes a ground floor, which covers an area of 210 sq.m. as well as a loft with a total area of 100 sq.m., being part of a three-storey apartment building, which is located on 2nd Mayou Street at number 18 in Nea Smyrni.

Pizzoteca and the connection with the Glu family

In addition to its privileged position, the pluses of the property include the fact that it was renovated about 10 years ago. The shop currently serves as a dining area as it houses the Pizzoteca fast food restaurant. The fact that the pizzeria is hosted on this property is not accidental as it connects its name with the Glu family. It was, after all, in 2012 when George Glu decided to expand his activity in the catering industry with a vehicle Pizzoteca. Today at the address of the store, ie at 2nd of May Street at number 18 in Nea Smyrni, it seems that the company Pizzoteca-Bakopoulos Theodoros & Co. EE has its headquarters. According to the most recently published data available, among the shareholders of the company appear to be Maria Triantopoulou, who is the wife of George Glu as well as Zenovia Glu of Antonios.

The auction for the luxury house in Kastella is fruitless

However, this was not the only hammer reserved for the Glu family yesterday, as the auction was also planned, which concerned the luxurious residence of Georgios Glos and Maria Triantopoulou in Kastella, Piraeus. The specific auction turned out to be barren as it was led to cancellation due to lack of bidders. It should be noted that the starting price was set at 3.3 million euros with the accelerated Probank Bank under special liquidation. This is a three-storey building with an underground and closed parking space, which has been erected on a plot of 329,143 sq.m. and is located on Al. Papanastasiou 10 towards the sea. According to the assessment report, “this building is of conventional construction with a load-bearing structure made of reinforced concrete and a filling body made of brickwork. Materials such as stone and marble have been used, it is of good aesthetics, while it has a sea view”.
