Gmail has been downloaded more than 10 billion (!) Times – and this is if you take into account only Android

Google’s official email client for Android has hit another impressive 10 billion downloads on Google Play. And this is not surprising, since the Gmail app has been around since the birth of Android, and it is used by billions of people around the world. Another surprise is why it took so long, given the fact that Gmail is preinstalled on almost all Android smartphones.

Google Play has an exclusive group of apps that have reached the 10 billion download mark. These include Google products such as YouTube, Chrome, Google Maps, and Google Play Services. Gmail started out as a simple email service, but it has grown a lot in recent years. It has integrated Chat and Meet services as part of a broader rebranding and update of the Google Workspace. Unfortunately, this has led to the closure of other popular services such as Hangouts and Inbox.

There may be two reasons why it took Gmail so long to reach this mark. One of them is related to the fact that the web version of Gmail offers almost all the functions of the service and does not require installation on a smartphone. The other is related to the growing popularity of a light version of the application – Gmail Go, which is intended for entry-level Android devices with 1 GB of RAM.
