A survey carried out by CNN pointed out who are the pre-candidates for the state government and for the Senate in Goiás. It is worth noting that parties can change their nominations until August 5, when the deadline for choosing candidates is over.
Goiás is among the federative units with the highest number of pre-candidates who aspire to the position of governor, with nine potential competitors.
The confirmed name is from Ronaldo Caiado (Union Brazil), current governor seeking re-election. He won the last election in the first round, with 60% of the valid votes in Goiás, equivalent to almost 1.8 million votes.
Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, he was born in Anápolis (GO). He was a federal deputy for five terms and a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic. He was serving as a senator when he was elected governor.
One of the doubts about his campaign will be his relationship with President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with whom he was an ally, but ended up distancing himself after disagreements. According to a policy analyst at CNN Thais Arbex, for an important wing of the party, an alliance with the president is treated as impossible.
THE CNNmembers of União Brasil said that Ronaldo Caiado understands that an association with Bolsonaro does not bring electoral gains.
On the other hand, the recent officialization of União Brasil, with the addition of Social Liberal Party (PSL) It’s from Democrats, represented a complication for Major Victor Hugo (PSL). Supported by Bolsonaro, the federal deputy has expressed interest in running for Palácio das Esmeraldas, but the new party must nominate Caiado.
Thus, the military has been looking for other legends and is close to the PL. Vitor Hugo de Araújo Almeida, 44, is from Salvador (BA).
One of Caiado’s main opponents must be Marconi Perilloof Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB). He has already been governor of Goiás for four terms – in the first, he was 35 years old. He was also a senator, elected in 2006 with 75% of the votes, as well as a federal and state deputy.
Perillo was investigated several times on suspicion of corruption and was arrested in 2018, just days after losing the Senate election. Marconi Ferreira Perillo Júnior is 59 years old and was born in Palmeiras de Goiás.
the also toucan Zé Eliton, disputes the nomination of the party. Lawyer, he is 49 years old and is from Rio Verde. In 2016, he assumed the position of Secretary of Public Security of Goiás – the same year he was shot at during a motorcade.
Zé Eliton was vice governor for two terms, being sworn in as governor in 2018, for eight months, when Perillo left the post to run for the Senate.
Who also wants to compete for the top position at Palácio das Esmeraldas is Gustavo Mendanha Melo. He is currently non-party and in negotiation with various legends.
Melo is 39 years old and is from Aparecida de Goiânia, a city he commands in his second term as mayor. In the 2020 elections, he won 95.81% of the vote. Before that, he was president of the City Council and city councilor for two terms.
O Workers’ Party (PT) has two pre-candidates for government in the state; Wolmir Amado, 60 years old, is from Paim Filho, in Rio Grande do Sul. He was rector of the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás (PUC Goiás) and has a career dedicated to educational programs and community projects.
Amado was Latin America’s representative on the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Catholic Universities, based in Paris (2006-2009). He is vice-president of the Superior Council of the National Association of Catholic Education (ANEC) and adviser, for two terms, of the Council of Rectors of Brazilian Universities (CRUB).
The other pre-candidate for the party is Adriana Sauthier Accorsi, 48 years old, born in Itapuranga, police chief. In politics, she is serving her second term as a state deputy. Among her main agendas are public safety and the defense of minorities.
O patriots presents as a pre-candidate for the government of Goiás the businessman Jânio Darrot, 66 years old. He was state deputy and, twice, mayor of the municipality of Trindade, winning the elections in 2012 and 2016.
The businessman and politician Vanderlan Cardoso59 years old, is the pre-candidate for the Social Democratic Party (PSD). He is from the municipality of Iporá and in 2018 he was elected senator for Goiás, chairing the Science and Technology, Innovation, Communication and Information Technology Commission.
Senate
So far, few names have been presented as pre-candidates for the Senate by the parties. However, running for reelection, Luiz do Carmo is taken for granted.
he left the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) in February and is looking for an acronym to join – and the PSC, led by his brother, Eurípedes do Carmo, is one of the most likely destinations. Luiz do Carmo is a businessman, is 63 years old, and is from Palminópolis (GO).
If you go to Christian Social Party (PSC)Luiz do Carmo would dispute the nomination with Wilder Moraiswho has already expressed interest in running for the Senate. One of the richest businessmen in the state, he has 53 years old and born in Taquaral de Goiás. He was an alternate for Demóstenes Torres and took office in 2012, when the senator was impeached, but was unable to be reelected in 2018.
He then took on the position of State Secretary of Industry and Commerce in the management of Caiado, but he was not compatible, in 2020, to run for the post of deputy mayor of Goiânia – being defeated at the polls.
Among those who apply for the position of senator is Alexandre Baldy de Sant’Anna Braga, from Progressistas (PP). Industrial and political, he is 41 years old and is from Goiânia.
His most recent role was that of Secretary of Metropolitan Transport in São Paulo, in the administration of João Doria (PSDB), but he has already been a federal deputy for Goiás, minister of Cities in the Michel Temer government and state secretary of Industry and Commerce of Goiás, in Marconi Perillo’s mandate.
Another goiano who participates in the toucan government of São Paulo and is eyeing the vacancy to be opened in the Senate is Henrique Meirelles (PSD). He is currently the State Secretary of Finance and Planning. Born in Anápolis, 76 years old, Meirelles was president of the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), during the Lula government, and Minister of Finance, during the Michel Temer government.
O union Brazil, in turn, has as a possible indication the federal deputy for Goiás, Deputy Waldir. He is 59 years old and is from Jacarezinho (PR). In several public statements, the deputy reaffirms his intention to run for a seat in the Senate.
Joao Campos, federal deputy in his fifth term, is a pre-candidate for the Senate for the Republicans. Campos is a delegate, is 59 years old and is from Peixes, municipality of Tocantins.
He is considered a conservative deputy, having presented the Legislative Decree Project 234/2011, which intended to remove the restriction of psychologists to debates and treatments related to homosexuality.
The first round of the 2022 election is scheduled to take place on the first Sunday of October, the 2nd. And, if necessary, the second round will be held on the 30th of the same month.
