No live TV, audience and red carpet for the Golden Globes 2022. Covid will have taken away from us the possibility of admiring the looks of the stars on the red carpet for this edition too (decision also taken, however, to cope with the controversy which involved the association of the foreign press accused of lack of representation, given the absence of black journalists among the members, and the lack of transparency in the awarding of prizes), but not the desire to dream with the dresses more to the page worn by planetary divas over the decades.
After all, it is now almost two years that the nostalgia effect became the new black. Not only the recovery of vintage clothes by the stars, but also taking refuge in past eras constituted the sartorial antidote to letting go of a pandemic.
And so, since a few days before the event, the people of fashion victims received the news of the restrictions for the awaited ceremony (the award ceremony will still be held on January 9 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles), which also in 2021 has adopted the “sofa at home” formula to reward the actors, we thought that never before, in order to cheer us up, should we give ourselves a glamorous banquet based on bright fabrics, sequins, feathers, impeccable sequins and silhouettes that have helped write Golden Globe history over the decades.
Our imaginary red carpet thus mixes creations couture 50s, 60s, 70s, with the refined elegance of Grace Kelly to the always sparkling Marilyn up to the boho chic touch of Cher. We then move on to the opulence of the 80s with the rainbow outfit of Melanie Griffith in 1987 and, before, of the divine of those years Joan Collins, unusually sober in a petrol green dress but with a jewelery set worthy of Liz Taylor, ready to receive in 1983 the award for best actress for Dynasty.
The 90s will be remembered for the splendid sobriety of Audrey Hepburn, a fantastic sixty-year-old who, radiant in a champagne satin dress with a minimal silhouette, in 1990 receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award gives a fashion lesson on how a simple, essential and precise style is sometimes more captivating than useless frills.
Julia Roberts, for its part, it demonstrates the evergreen DNA of a blazer to be used as a suit if necessary: how current is your look to receive the 1991 Golden Globe award?
Then many unforgettable dresses from the Third Millennium editions: from the metallic one of a real Goddes by Elie Saab shown by Beyoncé in 2007 at the Marchesa di gold dress Jennifer Lopez at the Golden Globes in 2009 that was reminiscent of her iconic green Versace dress from nine years earlier.
And then the very romantic pink dress with the strapless red rose by Victor & Rolf cha Natalie Portman, pregnant, she showed off in 2011 or Ralph Lauren’s red cape dress with which in 2014 Lupita Nyong’o cemented her status as a fashion icon that year.
Among the most famous to appear on our fancy red carpet, the periwinkle dress by Valentino Haute Couture with which Lady Gaga literally sent the internet into a tailspin in 2019. The diva, nominated for A Star is born, wanted to pay homage to a dress that Judy Garland wears in the 1954 version of the film.
Closes the fashion parade the beautiful Gucci ice queen look that Elle fanning showed off last year for the virtual ceremony.
