Golden Globes 2023: all the nominations

After an edition snubbed by television and passed almost in silence, the Golden Globes are back with a new look and a new mission in hopes of rebuilding a reputation. After the accusations of being not very inclusive and of having often and willingly been plagiarized by production companies looking for a nomination for their titles, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) tries to remedy by humbly asking Hollywood for forgiveness through a demonstration of more wide-ranging which, in 2023, will be televised again on the NBC channel. The appointment is set for January 10th with comedic actor and director Jerrod Carmichael leading, while the newly announced nominations seek to span as many categories as possible for the work of professionals to be recognized and appreciated – in this regard, the Golden Globes have decided to add new categories for the occasion: Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, Comedy or Drama TV Series; Best Supporting Actress and Actor in a Musical, Comedy or Drama TV Series; and Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series.

The result is fairly balanced nominations which, even in this round, are preparing to reward the best of cinema and television that we have seen this year. If competing for the heaviest prize – namely the one for best drama film – are two blockbusters such as Avatars 2 And Top Gun: Maverick the musical Elvis premiered in Cannes and Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece The Fabelmans, to arouse curiosity are above all the nominations of the interpreters, including that of Brandan Fraser, the absolute protagonist of The Whale by Darren Aronofsky who announced ahead of time that, in the event of a nomination, he would never take part in the Golden Globe award ceremony because Hollywood can forgive, but he can’t. If Cate Blanchett-already winner of the Coppa Volpi in Venice-seems more than a favorite for her role in Tar, the more nebulous is the speech on the best director – will James Cameron be able to convince with a sequel released 13 after the original? – and about the success or otherwise of The Banshees of Inisherin, the film presented in Venice that managed to take home the most Golden Globe nominations.

On the TV series front, we’ll see if – without Succession – will be able to win The Crown or house of the dragon, while we really hope that two Apple TV + products will make their way: the miniseries Blackbird with Taron Egerton and the wonderful Severance (in Italian Split) of which, unfortunately, very little has been said in our country. Despite this, the president of the HFPA Helen Hoehneseems optimistic that the Golden Globes will return to their former glory after the embarrassment of recent years: «Our studio partners have worked with us to ensure that some changes have been made to reinvent the HFPA and the Golden Globes and preserve our future to ensure that our philanthropic and charitable activities continue to grow strongly»he told Deadlines explaining that he has increased the number of representatives of different races and ethnic groups within the association adding another 100 new international voters. «The depth, diversity and size of the voting body is now historic and includes voters from 62 countries – said the president – There is also a majority of women and representatives of the LGBTQIA+ community». Whether that will be enough to carve out a special place again in the Hollywood altar, however, we will only find out on January 10th.
