However, it was not until 1975 that the Golden Palm became the symbol of the Cannes Film Festival, granted annually to the director of best feature film in the official competition. Throughout the editions, the format has changed, but the essence remained.
Last year, “Anora”, who also became the best film winner at the Oscar, took the Golden Palm. This year, 22 films compete for the maximum award among them the Brazilian “The Secret Agent”, by Kleber Mendonça Filho.
The Golden Palm winner, made at the Chopard Jewelery Genebrine Workshops in Switzerland, is chosen by the jury. 2025 is chaired by the French actress Juliette Binoche and formed by Halle Berry, Payal Kapadia, Alba Rohrwacher, Leo Slimani, Dieudo Hamadi, Hong Sangsoo, Carlos Reygadas and Jeremy Strong.
