The wait is almost over: after a process undermined by the pandemic and forced to compete with security protocols, Gomorrah – The series announces that it will finish filming its fifth and final season in May, thus allowing Sky and NOW TV to broadcast it, most likely, in the fall. The Sky Original series produced by Cattleya in collaboration with Beta Film, considered as one of the most important Italian products of the last decade according to the ranking drawn up by New York Times, will resume the story where it left off, with a Naples torn apart by the increasingly destructive clash between the Levante and Patrizia and with Genny (Salvatore Esposito) forced to hide from the police in a secret bunker, away from Azzurra (Ivana Lotito) and her Pietrino.
At a time when understanding who to trust is essential to ensure survival, Genny can only count on the mysterious’ O Maestrale, boss of Ponticelli, at least until he finds out that Ciro Di Marzio (Marco D’Amore) is alive and is in Latvia, thirsty for revenge: from here on it is clear not only that the final battle is almost upon us, but also that nothing will be the same for Genny. The first five episodes of the fifth season of Gomorrah will be directed by D’Amore himself, who had already signed the direction of two episodes of the fourth as well as de The Immortal, one of the greatest cinema successes of 2019, a rare example of how a film can be the narrative glue between two television seasons, while the remaining five will be directed by Claudio Cupellini, in the organizational machine of the series since its inception.
The shooting, start in Riga and continue to Naples, demonstrate the immense effort not only to finish the job in time for delivery, but also to create a worthy ending that can satisfy the spectators who, for years now, have seen in Gomorrah – The series a point of reference, a series capable of recounting the drama of a family and the good and evil that govern the heart of each of us like few others. Written by the head writers Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli, who also sign the series subject with Roberto Saviano, Gomorrah 5 will not spare the twists: understanding what the conclusion of the story will be and who will win between Genny and Ciro is probably one of the biggest worries for the public who, from now on, can start the countdown.
