Google: $ 176 million bell from South Korea for unfair competition

Imposed a fine of 207 billion won ($ 176.64 million) on Google of Alphabet Inc. the competent authority against monopolies in South Korea. The American technology giant announced that it is abusing its dominant position in the market, in order to limit the competition in the mobile telephony operating system of the market.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has investigated Google for allegedly preventing local mobile phone makers from using other operating systems.

This fine is the last obstacle to the protection of competition that Google faces in South Korea.

Earlier in the month, parliament passed a bill banning large mobile app providers such as Google from pressuring software makers to use large corporate payment systems to effectively cut charges for buying apps from the respective application stores.

According to the KFTC, the fine may be the ninth largest ever imposed, according to APE-MPE, citing Reuters. Google did not comment on the developments.
