The operating system for smartwatches Wear OS has been in decline for many years, but yesterday during their presentation, developers from Google announced a serious intention to change the situation for the better. To do this, Google has partnered with South Korean tech giant Samsung to create a new platform for wearable electronics that will combine the best of Wear OS and Tizen. At the moment, the new creation of the two mastodons of the market is still called Wear OS, but, probably, closer to the release on smartwatches, this name can be changed.

However, even without a full-fledged product, Google representatives have already talked about what they managed to achieve when working with Samsung. According to the developers, on the new platform, applications run and launch 30% faster, while the device itself operates longer on the built-in battery – this was achieved due to the system-on-chip with lower power consumption. Unfortunately, no specific data regarding autonomy has been announced. Moreover, developers from Google are already working on optimized applications that are created specifically for the new platform.

For example, the Maps app will have step-by-step directions, YouTube Music will have offline support, and Google Pay has received a complete redesign with Tap-and-Pay support. Naturally, new functional dials will appear, which are also being developed by third-party developers like Adidas – they can be changed for certain use scenarios. And there will also be an improved service for sports and health based on the developments of Fitbit, which Google acquired, but there is no information about this either.
And, most surprisingly, at the presentation they said that the new operating system will not be exclusive to Samsung and Google – all partners will be able to install it on their wearable electronics.
