Google brings Gemini AI to Gmail and Docs; know more

O Google announced this Wednesday (21) that some of its artificial intelligence tools offered to companies will be powered by AI models Gemini . The services will be available on a lower-priced plan, in a move to compete with Microsoft-backed OpenAI.

The Alphabet unit, launched in August last year, introduced “Duet AI in Workspace”. This set of AI assistants that could write in Google Docs, compose emails in Gmail, and generate custom visuals in Google Slides, among other capabilities, at a monthly price of $30 per user for businesses. “Duet AI in Workspace” is being renamed to “Gemini for Google Workspace” and will now be available for $20 and $30 per user per month, based on available features, in addition to a Google Workspace subscription.

OpenAI sells a package that includes the GPT-4 AI model and the DALL·E s imaging tool for a monthly price of $20 for individuals and $25 for businesses per user.

Companies are focused on launching services based on generative AI, widely regarded as a breakthrough technology that attracts billions of dollars in investment and customer interest for its ability to automate tasks and produce human-like responses.

Microsoft, through its investment in OpenAI, gained a head start by quickly implementing generative AI capabilities across a wide range of its products, such as cloud and enterprise productivity software.

Google announced on Wednesday (21) that individual users can now access Gemini in their personal Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets and Meet apps through a subscription to Google One AI Premium, a service that offers additional storage and features in Gmail, Drive and Photos.

Google Workspace users will also have a standalone “Chat with Gemini” chat experience and conversations on this tool will not be used for advertising purposes.
