Google held layoffs in Brazil this Friday (10).
The technology giant has not officially positioned itself, but has confirmed the information to CNN as part of the 12,000 job cuts announced by parent company Alphabet in January.
The number of employees dismissed, however, was not detailed by big tech.
Google’s parent company announced on January 20 that it would eliminate 6% of its workforce, following a series of similar announcements made by companies in the technology sector, such as Microsoft, Amazon, Zoom, among others.
Alphabet has increased its workforce by more than 50,000 employees over the past two years as rising demand for its services during the pandemic has boosted profits.
But in recent quarters, the company’s core digital ad business has slowed as the economic downturn and recession fears have caused advertisers to reduce their spending.
