Google: Fined in Russia for not downloading banned content

Russian telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor announced on Tuesday that it had filed two administrative lawsuits against Alphabet Inc’s, Google’s parent company, for failing to remove banned information from its platform, accusing it of promoting blatantly false news.

Roskomnadzor announced that Google could be fined 8 million rubles ($ 91,533) or a fine of up to 20% of Russia’s annual turnover for repeated violations. He also announced that YouTube has become one of the main platforms involved in the “information war” against Russia.

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment by email.
