When Google announced its cloud gaming platform Stadia, the company announced its intention to release original games developed by Stadia’s own studio, SG&E (Stadia Games and Entertainment). Now Google has announced the closure of the studio.
Building best-in-class games from scratch takes years and significant investment, and the cost is growing exponentially. Given our focus on leveraging Stadia’s proven technology, as well as deepening our business partnership, we have decided we will no longer invest in providing exclusive content from our in-house SG&E development team.

Google decided to develop the cloud platform itself, adding that most SG&E employees will be moving into new roles at the company, and Jade Raymond, a gaming industry veteran who was brought in to run the studio, has parted ways with the company.
We are committed to the future of cloud gaming and will continue to contribute to the development of this industry. Our goal remains focused on creating the best platform for gamers and technology for our partners, bringing these opportunities to life for people around the world.
