Google has released a small but important update for the proprietary Wear OS (formerly Android Wear) wearable electronics platform – it made changes to the process of finding and installing applications on smartwatches.
On the Google Play online store for Android and Wear OS, users will be able to search for apps using improved filters and new categories. On the smartphone in Google Play, there will be categories for “watch” applications and watch faces. It will also be possible to remotely install applications and dials on the watch, selected in Google Play on a smartphone.
In addition, the Google Play app for Wear OS has moved to the new Material You design language, introduced alongside Android 12 and redefining the interface across the system.
According to the developers, the new design should simplify navigation on the small screen of the watch, important information is placed on cards that are easy to read and make a choice. When choosing an application on Google Play for Wear OS, the user will be prompted to open a page to complete the purchase on a smartphone or in a computer browser.
Google plans to roll out the update in the coming weeks to Android smartphones and watches based on Wear OS 2.x and higher.
