The search giant Google did not stand aside from the imminent transition of the Ethereum network to the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) algorithm – the company launched a countdown timer before the merger and created a special “doodle”.
In order to access the timer and doodle, you need to type “Ethereum Merge” or “The Merge” in the Google search box. Doodle is a picture of two happy pandas walking towards each other with open arms – the closer the merge, the closer the pandas get to each other.
According to Google Cloud developer Sam Padilla, the timer and doodle were a “small and fun surprise” as well as an expression of respect for the work that has been going on for years.
Padilla also said that Google’s search and research teams did the work to create the “surprise”, but it was he who came up with the idea. The developer emphasized that the timer takes data from the Ethereum blockchain in real time – for this, the second cryptocurrency’s own network nodes are used.
The upcoming transition of Ethereum to PoS has become a major topic for the cryptocurrency community. This is also reflected in the number of Google searches for this topic – now the term is classified as “extremely popular.”
