Google introduced Chrome OS Flex: it will give life to old PCs and Macs

Yesterday, February 15, Google officially introduced its latest operating system, Chrome OS Flex, which is an upgraded version of the standard Chrome OS for older computers with low performance. The developers from the corporation said that the user only needs to create a bootable image on a USB drive, and then install the operating system on the computer for comfortable work with many applications. It is worth noting that OS installation is available both on computers running Windows and on Apple equipment, so the range of supported PCs is really huge.

In addition, the operating system is distributed completely free of charge – on the official website of Chrome OS Flex it is indicated that Google created a version of the system for educational institutions with old computers and the corporate sector, but in fact no one forbids private users from using it on home PCs. Although, of course, in comparison with Windows, the capabilities of this system are much simpler – this is the same Chrome OS that is installed on all Chromebook models, but with slight simplifications. Accordingly, the user has access to all the standard features of the operating system, including a voice assistant, monthly updates and downloading applications from Google Play.

Google also said that some users may well experience difficulties when switching from an old PC to Windows to a completely new operating system. To simplify this process, the company’s developers have implemented a very convenient tool – after creating a bootable USB flash drive, you can follow the instructions and carry out a test run of the system without reinstalling the OS on the computer itself. The user can run the OS from a USB drive, testing the capabilities of Chrome OS Flex, and only then decide on a full installation.

Unfortunately, for some reason, Google decided not to publish a complete list of system requirements for the latest operating system. The official website only states that Chrome OS Flex will work on computers 10 years old and newer, but experts did not provide specific requirements for the processor, RAM or internal memory. This probably indicates that the system requirements for Chrome OS Flex are commensurate with regular Chrome OS.
