Google is launching a new “Protected by Android” brand. What does it mean

Google may not be up to the level of Apple yet when it comes to operating system security, but the search giant is working hard on it. With Android features like the privacy bar, alerts for apps using the microphone and camera, and the ability to share your approximate location, there’s no doubt that Google will focus on the security of its system. And here comes a new campaign called “Protected by Android”, which aims to remind users that they can not worry about security and privacy when using an Android device.

A new video has surfaced on the official Android YouTube channel showing happy people with smartphones and reassuring phrases like “you’re well protected from malicious apps” and “your personal data is under control.” The video itself does not contain any valuable information, nothing new is reported in it. Only some well-known security features of the Android operating system are listed, for example, the same Play Protect. The video ends with a URL on the screen that leads to the “Security” section of the Android website, where all the features are explained in more detail.

From now on, the new “Protected by Android” branding with the green shield logo is expected to appear on the mobile system and other places related to Android. This is all part of Google’s latest privacy and security efforts in Android 13.
