Soon, with the help of Nearby Share, it will be possible to see and give access to all nearby users and send files to several users at once. For now, Nearby Share allows you to send files to only one person at a time.

In the next update, Nearby Share will be able to “see” all Android devices nearby, the corresponding setting will be called Everyone. This optional setting will allow anyone nearby to share media with you if your device’s screen is not locked.

Apple AirDrop also has this feature. To avoid abuse, Google has a special temporary mode that will automatically switch Nearby Share accessibility settings to “contacts only” five minutes after activating the Everyone option. The Nearby Share Quick Settings menu lets you quickly switch between the Everyone and Contacts options.

There will also be support for transferring content to a group of people at once, rather than to a single user. At the moment, the function does not work quite correctly.

As a reminder, the function of fast pairing and data transfer between Nearby Share devices was officially launched for Android in August 2020. The feature is available for devices with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and newer. It works similarly to the famous Apple AirDrop and replaces Android Beam.
