Google has released a useful update for the Files app that will make it easier for users to free up storage space on smartphones and tablets.

Files by Google has a new feature called Smart Storage that automatically deletes backed up photos and videos from your phone.
The app opens a pop-up window describing the new feature as soon as it becomes available on the device. The pop-up window says: “Automatically delete media content with backups by enabling Smart Storage in the settings.”

On the settings page, you can find a new Smart Storage switch under the Clean section. After activation, photos and videos that were saved in Google Photos more than 60 days ago will be automatically deleted from the internal memory of the device.

Along with the new Smart Storage toggle, the Files by Google app has also received several other useful features in recent months. For example, the application now allows you to add files to the Favorites folder, and the Trash folder has appeared, which allows you to recover recently deleted files.
