Google may pay at least $ 5 billion for incognito surveillance

As we previously reported, Google has failed to evade a lawsuit that has begun because the company collects data from users about their online activity, even when they browse incognito.

Now it became known that the amount of claim indicated at least $ 5 billion. The plaintiffs allege that Google and parent company Alphabet secretly collect data through Google Analytics, Google Ad Manager, website plugins, and other applications, including mobile apps.

The lawsuit, filed in June, alleges that Google is violating wiretapping and privacy laws by continuing to “intercept, track and collect messages,” even when people are using Chrome’s incognito mode and other web browser modes.

On Friday, federal judge Lucy Koh dismissed tech giant Google’s motion to discontinue the proceedings: “The court found that Google did not notify users that Google was involved in the alleged data collection while the user was in private browsing mode.”

Google said last year that it will gradually phase out third-party cookies that track individual browsing of websites by people and target ads based on their activity.
