Google offers “Slavery Simulator” in its app store

Google offers in its application store for the Android system, the “Play Store”, a “game” entitled “Slavery Simulator”, in which the user can simulate being an owner of enslaved people. Complaints against the application began to reverberate on social networks this Wednesday (24).

The producer responsible for the application, Magnus Games, claims that the user is able to “exchange, buy and sell slaves”.

“Choose one of two objectives at the start of the slave owner simulator: the Path of the Tyrant or the Path of the Liberator. Become a wealthy slave owner or achieve the abolition of slavery. Everything is in your hands,” writes the company description.

Game "Slavery Simulator" is offered on Google app store.

In one of the modalities offered, the description is made: “Use slaves for your own enrichment. Prevent the abolition of slavery and accumulate a certain amount of money.”

Magnus Games claims that the “game was created solely for entertainment purposes”. “Our studio condemns slavery in any form. All game content is fictional and not tied to specific historical events. All coincidences are accidental”, writes the application notification, as shown in the image below.

Producer Magnus Games alleges that the game "Slavery Simulator", offered in the Google app store, was produced for "entertainment purposes".

According to Google’s own platform, the application was launched on April 20 of this year and has already been downloaded more than 1,000 times and is classified as “Free”.

Google itself details, on your website, that the classification of this category for Brazil indicates that “the content is suitable for all ages. Sometimes, it can present some element of very low impact, such as childish violence”.

Also according to the platform, the app has a 4-star rating. The maximum rating is 5 stars.

“Great game to pass the time. But I think it lacked more torture options. They could click on the option to flog the slave too”, evaluated, on May 22, the user “Mateus Schizophrenic”, who gave it a 5-star rating.

“It is unbelievable that this type of content is available and accessible to children”, wrote, on the same day, user Lucas Lima, who gave the application a minimum score.

A CNN contacted Google and the Brazilian Association of Game Developers (Abragames), and is awaiting a response. A CNN tries to contact the developer Magnus Games.

Representation at the Public Ministry

Amidst the repercussions on social networks of the criticisms leveled at offering the application on the Google platform, authorities also expressed their views.

Congressman Orlando Silva (PCdoB) called it “inhuman, disgusting, appalling and criminal”.

“Unegro Brasil brought me the complaint. We will file a representation with the Public Ministry for the crime of racism and we will take the case to the last consequences, preferably the arrest of those responsible”, he published on Twitter.

“The very existence of something so bizarre available on platforms shows the urgency of regulating the digital environment”, added the rapporteur for the Fake News PL.
