Google Photos no longer has free unlimited: now only 15 GB for everything

For a very long time, Google has provided users with an excellent opportunity to store photos and videos in their cloud storage completely free of charge and without volume restrictions – high quality content was simply synchronized from the smartphone’s memory to the cloud. But from today, June 1, such a pleasant opportunity is no longer valid – Google canceled free unlimited, limiting the user to the amount of memory provided for free. That is, now you can upload 15 GB content to the cloud, after which you will need to clean the memory or buy more space.

  • On the topic: Google Photos will disappear without limit – what alternatives does this cloud have?

However, there are several important details in this limitation. Firstly, absolutely all high quality (not original) photos that were uploaded to the cloud before June 1 during the free unlimited period will not be counted in the free 15 GB provided by Google. That is, if the user has downloaded the content earlier, before the introduction of this restriction, they will be stored in the cloud for as long as the user wants. Secondly, you need to understand that any other content that was uploaded from the current account to the cloud is also taken into account in the total storage memory.

Accordingly, documents, archives and heavy videos should be deleted immediately to free up space. Moreover, thirdly, the developers from Google recommend using the control over the remaining memory – it allows you to delete blurry photos, duplicate pictures and everything that you think is not entirely necessary. However, 15 GB of space for storing photos that are not in their original quality will be enough so that for several years not to clog the smartphone’s memory with unnecessary pictures.
