Google Play Services has discovered a new way to unlock Android

Apparently, Google is planning to add a new feature in Android 13 that will allow you to unlock your mobile device using your smartwatch. There are no official statements yet, but in the latest update of Google Play Services, evidence has already been found – lines of code, as well as an animation demonstrating the work of the new feature.

Former editor-in-chief of XDA Developers Mishaal Rahman revealed that the upcoming feature is called Nearby Unlock. It allows you to use your smartwatch to securely unlock your smartphone. New lines in Google Play Services 22.24.13 indicate that users will only be able to unlock their devices with the watch if they themselves are unlocked and are on their wrist. After a successful unlock, a notification is sent to the watch, clicking on which allows you to instantly lock the smartphone. The animation is probably part of the initial setup of the Nearby Unlock feature.

It is worth noting that hints of the ability to unlock an Android smartphone using a watch were found earlier, only then the function was called Smart Unlock. It is expected to appear in the stable version of Android 13. It is not in the current beta version.
