Google to open new engineering center in Brazil

Google announced this Tuesday (14) that it has invested BRL 1.6 billion in infrastructure for its cloud computing division in Brazil since 2017 and that it will open a new office and engineering center in the country in 2023.

In January, Google announced the hiring of 200 engineers in Brazil this year, in an initiative to boost security technologies and against abusive content. The hiring will double the number of engineers in Brazil.

“This will be the company’s second engineering center in Brazil,” said the company, which has had an office in Belo Horizonte since 2006.

Google’s investment plans will reinforce the company’s competition with Amazon Web Services, which already has operations in Brazil and in 2020 announced an investment of R$ 1 billion in data processing centers in São Paulo.

Errata: Initially, the report stated that Google Cloud would open a new engineering center in Brazil. In fact, it will be from Google. The information has been corrected
