Google has introduced a number of innovations for the Android Auto platform, and some functions have already become available to motorists.

Google announced that it will expand its support for third-party apps, including apps for charging electric vehicles, navigation, and more.
Support for messaging apps has also been enhanced. A universal “application” is now offered for almost all messengers on your phone. As a result, users get access on the Android Auto home screen to all messengers such as Google Messages, WhatsApp, Google Voice, as well as send and listen to messages using the voice assistant Google Assistant. The latter became available to users around the world.
There are also new customization options. You can customize the home screen directly from your smartphone and manually set the dark mode.

And most notably, Google has introduced a new tabbed navigation for multimedia apps on Android Auto. Recently, a redesigned UI for YouTube Music was reported. It looks like other apps will soon be able to use a similar tabbed interface, including Spotify.

Another improvement for working with multimedia content is a new scrolling and search option “from A to Z”, which makes it easier to navigate the playlist.

These Android Auto features are available on smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and on compatible vehicles.
