Google will provide any US company with free online courses worth $100,000 in data analysis, design and other technology skills for its employees, the search firm said on Monday.
The offering marks a major expansion of Google’s Career Certificates, a program the company launched in 2018 to help people globally improve their CVs by learning new tools at their own pace.
The courses, developed by Google and sold through the online education service Coursera, typically cost students around $39 a month and take three to six months to complete.
Google will now cover the costs of up to 500 employees at any US company and has valued the subsidies at $100,000 because people typically take up to six months to complete.
Lisa Gevelber, founder of Grow with Google, the company’s unit that oversees certificates, said course completion rates are higher when people pay out of pocket, but the new offering is still worth it if it can help some people. companies to gain digital knowledge.
Certificates are also available in IT support, project management, e-commerce and digital marketing. They cover popular software in each of the industries, including Google’s advertising services.
